Human right activist protest against corruption
Just another quest to fight corruption and ensure justice in Nigeria, the Civil Right Congress has launched a road show of 150 kilometer in the protest against bribery and corruption with some top Government Officers and Multinational companies. The road show was done at the speed of 10 kilometer per hour through 35 villages and towns from Kaduna state to the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.
The slow movement was to Urge the Nigerian government to speed up the process of investigation and prosecution of those involved in the bribery scandal of the Multinational companies such as Securancy, Halliburton, Siemens, Pentascope and Willbros which lead to unproductively of the companies.
During the protest the human right activists expressed their concern of the state of corruption in Nigeria stating that for two years since the present administration came into power the cases of bribery and corruption of some top Nigerian government officers have been over looked for no just cause.
The President of the Civil Right Congress Comrade Shehu Sani said with rate of corruption been practiced in Nigeria the image and security of the country is at stake and Nigeria make no progress unless corruption is been eradicated.
“Corruption has been the major cause of underdevelopment in Nigeria reason why things do not work out and that has drawn our attention to find out the reason why the government have remained silent about the state of corruption in the country.” He further said for how long will Nigerians continue to depend on external bodies to help them solve issues, stressing “It high time when Nigerians rise to their feet and hold the government accountable of what they do, if we continue to die in silence they will continue the act of bribery and corruption is silence,” he added.
